Syntactic indentation vs alignment (including comments after non-blank, values for struct initialization etc, split lines too). Hopefully there won't be that many, so there is just to delete the tabs it added and replace it with spaces. Actually tabs "should" be used for indentation at start of the line,

Spaces are separators between arguments in the shell. It's highly likely that all shell scripts will trip up over a file name passed to them that contains spaces. Shells are text interpreters. Names are text. If you want to guarantee that it's treated as one word, don't put spaces in it.

Spaces - Leopard users: how useful is it?
Spaces are right, because a space is a space is a space, everywhere you go. Indenting with tabs can be done such that it will look the same on every editor that uses fixed-width fonts, meaning everything will line up correctly, it least in the sense that really matters. That's just not true.

(vim) how to see non-breakable spaces ?
Hopefully there won't be that many, so there is just to delete the tabs it added and replace it with spaces. IMO, tabs SHOULD be used for syntactic indentation and spaces for decoration purpose only. Ie a line should start with a number of tabs equal to its nesting level and after that only spaces should be used.
